WEEKLY REVIEW
Following an extremely competitive week with multiple games decided after Sunday evening, distinct tiers are beginning to emerge in the rankings. Josh, Alex, and Kyle lie at the top, with a monstrous 164 point showing propelling Alex to become the new top scorer. At 2-1, Trevor is tied for second in the standings but his low scoring output lands him among Kendall and myself in the second tier. The rest of the pack is close behind, with Brandon, Julian, Mason , and Bryce all tied at 1-2 and averaging slightly less PPG. Although teams are beginning to separate from one another, the six-way tie at the bottom indicates that everyone is still in the race for playoffs and the next few weeks will be crucial in securing a seed. Also, huge congratulations to Julian and Jaime Ramirez for welcoming young Nico into the world, a future competitor and fantasy league champion.
Josh- I am getting tired of writing about you first but maybe Alex will have something to say about that next week. In a battle of the unbeatens, Josh handed Trevor his first loss of the season putting up 131.5 points behind strong showings from Dalvin Cook and Evan Engram. Although his score was on par with other winning teams this week, Josh left 35.5, 45, and 23 points on the bench from Ingram, Evans, and McCoy respectively. This slip-up in start/sit decisions was probably frustrating for Josh, but more than anything it was intimidating for other squads. Facing a reeling Kendall team, Josh has an opportunity to move to 4-0 and continue chasing his 2018 record.
Alex- As weeks have passed the dark horse has transformed into a favorite, putting up the two highest scores this season and leading the league in PPG. With impressive performances from just about everyone in his lineup, Alex put up 164.1 points to defeat Julian and improve to 2-1. What started out as a suspect roster has turned out fortunately for Alex, with Zeke returning from his holdout and Gordon on his way. Surprise success from the likes of Austin Hooper and Sammy Watkins have also helped to plug the holes that were apparent after draft night. Although the point projections remain close, I expect Alex to put up big numbers again and take down Mason.
Kyle- After three weeks Kyle finds himself at second in scoring, getting jumped by Alex but remaining ahead of Josh. In what came down to a nail biting Sunday night game, Cooper Kupp scored 33.1 points to catapult him past yours truly and onto 2-1. All grievances aside, that was a very unexpected comeback. Although his roster lacks the superstar talent of the top two in the rankings, Kyle has proven to have a high floor and will capitalize on the mediocre scoring of his opponents. This will come in handy in week four, facing a boom or bust Bryce squad with a wide range of scoring. Kyle’s team has certainly been impressive, but a lack of depth may begin to affect him as we move into bye weeks.
Trevor- After a disappointing showing in week three, Trevor was crowned Team Suck after suffering his first loss at the hands of Josh. With 91.7 points, Trevor scored the second lowest total so far this season and joins three other teams in scoring below 100 points. Ironically, he is also last in scoring now, despite being tied for second in the standings. All of this aside, records are what secure playoff spots, and Trevor just has to find a way to keep winning. Anchored by Patrick Mahomes and Bell, he will have to make some tough calls at WR to keep points off the bench against Brandon in week four.
Kendall- Taking the second heartbreaking loss of Sunday night was Kendall, with the Rams defense and Brandin Cooks propelling Mason to victory. And that’s it.
Sorry I ran out of time this week, but I wanted to get them done before TNF and I have more homework to do. Best of luck to all teams in week four, the next power rankings will be complete.
