WEEKLY REVIEW
Trevor- In case you guys have not heard, Trevor’s team is fucking great. Following a double-digit performance from everyone in his lineup, Trevor led all scorers in week one with 149.2 points. Almost more impressive than his points scored was the balance his team showed, with every player scoring between 13 and 22.2 points. As far as repeat champions go, week one looked eerily reminiscent of last season for Trevor. The only catch is that his bench is absolutely atrocious, and as bye weeks and injuries come into play it could cost him some wins.
Josh- Outside of dismal Matt Stafford and an injured Greg Olsen, Josh’s team performed well week one in his shootout win over Brandon. Josh’s keen fantasy eye paid off after picking up James Conner for a solid 31.7 points and Keenan Allen showed out with 20.8 out of his 134.1-point total. After picking up Jack Doyle and trading Kyle for Russell Wilson, he has reinforced his lineup’s weak spots and seems primed for his week two matchup against Julian. With a potent lineup along with Mark Ingram and Greg Olsen on ice, Josh seems to be the real deal in 2018.
Jack- Showing the opposite of balance, Alvin Kamara exploded for 38.6 points, leading my team to a 130.1-74.9 victory over Alex in week one. OBJ and A.J. Green combined for 32.7 points, however the rest of the team was admittedly mediocre. Assuming the Ravens do not win another blowout, Alex Collins will see more reps this week and introducing a new flex should help matters. With Mark Ingram out for three more weeks, relying on Alvin for 20+ points and average performances elsewhere should keep me in business for the time being.
Brandon- Brandon fell to 0-1 despite putting up an impressive 126.5 points in the first week of action. Tyreek Hill led all fantasy scorers with 38.8 points and Melvin Gordon performed well with 23.1. Unfortunately for Brandon, the rest of his lineup failed to exceed projections leaving Matt Stafford to put the nail in the coffin on Monday night. The good news is, many of his players left room for improvement. I expect Kareem Hunt and Trey Burton scoring less than 5 points will be an anomaly and Tyreek Hill should maintain high output.
Riley- Riley soared to a big week one win behind Brees’ 31.6 points as well as an unlikely combination of Emmanuel Sanders and Kenny stills scoring a combined 49.1. He also had a chance to be this week’s highest scorer had he started Isaiah Crowell over Frank Gore in the RB2 slot. Although Riley scored more points than Brandon, I just do not see his lineup being as strong going into next week. The likelihood of Stills hauling in another 2 TDs and Brees throwing for 439 yards is slim, but regardless Riley has a solid roster led by his QB, RB1, and WR1.
Kyle- With the least impressive win of the week, Kyle topped Kendall scoring 101 points led by Kirk Cousins and three WRs. Hampered by Fournette’s injury and the Bills being absolute garbage, Kyle’s RBs scored a combined 9.6 points, 9.9 less than Dion Lewis scored by himself on the bench. However, trading Russell Wilson to Josh for Jay Ajayi should provide some stability at the RB position and makeup for points lost if Fournette misses time. With an average roster, Kyle needs to lean on players like Fournette and Hopkins to have big weeks if he wants to see higher point totals.
Bryce- I do not even know that Bryce is going to read this, and he never says anything, so his punishment is no team review. We miss you.
Kendall- Julio Jones performed as he does, with a ton of yards and no touchdowns, scoring 23 points to lead Kendall’s team. Adam Thielen and Brandin Cooks met expectations, scoring 13.2 and 11.8 respectively, but the rest of his lineup fell flat. Dalvin Cook seemed to just have an off week, but I think Kendall should seriously look into securing another RB2 to remain competitive. My fingers are crossed that he sees similar results in our upcoming week two matchup.
Julian- Michael Thomas put up big numbers in the Saints shootout with the Bucs, and with a high target ratio from Brees, he should continue to do so in the coming weeks. Julian also picked up a well performing Baltimore defense, scoring 17 points on 2 interceptions and holding the Bills to just 3 points. Unfortunately, everyone else in Julian’s lineup failed to crack double-digits in week one. I expect Devonta Freeman to find his rhythm during the season and picking up Phillip Lindsay from Denver should help to fill the stat sheet in week two.
Alex- Scoring a league low 74.9 points in week one, Alex fell to 0-1 after his WR2, TE, Flex, D/ST, and K combined for a total of 1.6 points. On the flip side, his team saw high output from Mike Evans scoring 24.2 and Aaron Rodgers with 24.9 points in a single half of football. Some of his pieces are solid, while others seem like they are out to hurt him. Starting A.D. this week and making some waiver pickups could turn the tides for his week two matchup against Riley.
