POWER RANKINGS
TREVOR – AVERAGE JOES
1st - 1.3
As the highest scoring team and one of only three 2-0 squads, it is no surprise Trevor found himself at the top of this week’s Power Rankings; however, I was surprised by the margin of his lead. A tremendously low average ranking of 1.3 is the best of any team to date, and likely will be for some time. It is clear that The League thinks highly of Trevor’s squad, but I have to wonder if we witnessed two ceiling weeks. With a shallow bench and a slew of players in the flex, I am curious to see how his team would fare if the Chiefs had an off night. As it stands, Trevor’s team has been red hot heading into a week three matchup with Alex. If he could move to 3-0, I think Trevor could all but lock in his playoff spot this week.
JACK – THE FIGHTING GOOGLE FORMS
2nd – 3.1
With an average ranking of 3.1, I just edged out Kyle to take second place in this week’s Power Rankings. The drop off from Trevor’s 1.3 rating indicates a clear divide in tiers, with Trevor in a league of his own and Kyle and I in the second group. Fueled by a career night from King Henry, I scored a league-high 173.96 points in my week two win against Alex. While I am still concerned about depth at the RB position, I am hopeful that a strong receiving core will continue to pick up the slack. A week three battle for second place gives me a great opportunity to prove I can contend for a first-round bye.
KYLE – HOMINY HOGS
3rd – 3.5
In third place with an average rating of 3.5 is Kyle, coming off of a fairly close win against Brandon in week two. Similar to Trevor’s Chiefs, Kyle relied on the Seahawks QB-WR pair to lead his team in scoring, a trend I expect to continue throughout the season. In contrast to Trevor, I think we have yet to see Kyle’s ceiling, scoring between 130-140 in both games so far. With Kenyan Drake and a pair of Bucs WRs on the bench, Kyle is one of the deeper teams at this point in the season. However, he will need to make some difficult start/sit decisions if he wants to break 150 points.
RILEY – LES ENCULÉS
4th – 5.2
With an average rating of 5.20, Riley is tied with Josh for fourth in the rankings. As far as order, I decided to cover Riley first as a nod to his 2-0 record. At just fifth in scoring with 129.98 PPG, Riley has benefitted from having the least points against by a margin of nearly 30 PAPG. Regardless of his opponents’ performances, he has proven to be a solid squad through two weeks, scoring 125+ in both outings. More alarming than his scoring is his RB situation, with CEH and Nyheim Hines combining for just 5.8 points in week two. It seems like Kyler, Waller, and Adams will be enough to keep him competitive week to week, but he may need to make moves if he wants to make the leap.
JOSH – SQUIRTLE SQUAD
4th – 5.2
Also at 5.20, Josh sits tied at 4th place this week. Unlike Riley, who received some of the most consistent voting you will see, Josh’s votes were all over the place, showing that The League at large is struggling to process his 0-2 start. Thanks to a double dud at RB in week two, Josh currently is sixth in scoring with 128.92 PPG. Despite being 0-2, it is fairly obvious Josh is a dangerous contender. With the third highest score in week one and 5 players scoring 15+ in week two, it seems Josh has had the short end of the stick up to this point. Eventually his consistency will shine through, but a week three loss to Riley could be too much to overcome.
MASON – GARDEN CITY GANGBANGERS
6th – 6.4
With an average rating of 6.4, Mason leads off the fourth tier of this week’s rankings in sixth place. After a 113.5 point outing in week two, Mason is 8th in scoring with 123.31 PPG. At 0-2 and 8th in scoring, it looks like Mason’s rating got a serious boost from two believers who voted him first and third. The biggest news surrounding this squad was a blockbuster trade made with Josh, adding Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon in return for star RB Austin Ekeler and AJ Brown. I am excited to see how these roster changes play out in week three, with Mason hoping to pick up his first win over a reeling Julian squad.
JULIAN – DEATH BURROW RECORDS
7th – 6.6
Just behind Mason at 6.6 is Julian, seventh in this week’s rankings. After putting up a monster 163.44 points in week one, Julian’s team did what only his team could do and dropped to 87.08 points in week two. With only one lineup change between the two weeks, it is a mystery how Julian will perform in his week three matchup against Mason, as evidenced through his wide variety of votes. I expect his RBs to continue to produce, but he will need a little more consistency at WR and TE to remain in the playoff picture.
KENDALL – BILLS MAFIA
8th – 7.0
With an average rating of 7.0, Kendall finds himself in 8th place this week, the third team in our fourth tier of players. Courtland Sutton and CMC combined for 49.6 points in week two, pushing Kendall past Mason and improving his record to 1-1. Despite picking up the win, it seems The League is not sold on Kendall as a playoff contender. An injury to CMC on Thursday night did not help his case, however a week three matchup against 0-2 Brandon could be what he needs to bounce back. There is not a player in the league that could replicate McCaffrey’s production, but Chuba Hubbard showed promise and potential for Kendall’s team going forward.
ALEX – STRATTON OAKMONT
9th – 7.3
Rounding out our fourth tier is Alex, with an average rating of 7.3 good for 9th place. Similar to Mason, Alex seems to have his band of believers that kept him from sliding closer to Brandon. Contrary to his rankings, Alex is actually fourth in scoring with a solid 130.65 PPG so far, mostly due to a ridiculous 41.5-point showing from Aaron Jones on MNF. With Saquon slowly heating up and Prescott due for a bounce back performance, I think Alex will continue to improve and climb the rankings as the season progresses.
BRANDON – THE BEEFY BOYS
10th – 9.4
Brandon established our highest ever rating this week with a 9.4, squarely tenth in the league. Looking at the ratings, I think it is fair to say he is in a tier of his own through two weeks of play. Despite falling to 0-2, Brandon showed considerably more promise in week two, with six players scoring in the double digits and five scoring 17+. If his TE, K, and D/ST could have combined for more than 3.8 points, he would have given Kyle a run for his money. I think better things are ahead for Brandon’s squad, I have him improving to 1-2 over Kendall this week.
PREDICTION RESULTS
After markedly better predictions from The League in week two, Josh and Brandon lead the way with 6-4 records. Julian and Alex are the only teams to remain 2-0 in their locks, while Brandon and Kendall are 0-2. Also, Kyle is doing impressively bad at 1-9 through ten games predicted. With more tough matchups ahead, I am excited to see if anyone is able to breakaway from the pack.
