WEEKLY REVIEW
Trevor- After a typical 23.6-point night from Todd Gurley and a surprising 29.2 from Golden Tate, Trevor rolled over last place Julian to go 3-1. As David Johnson continues to pick up in production, Trevor’s lineup seems to be firing on all cylinders. Expanding the scoring gap, he is first in PPG by 13.9 and riding a two-game winning streak going into week five. This week presents a heavyweight matchup with Josh, who has yet to outscore Trevor this year. It will be Gurley, Johnson, and Hyde against Barkley, Conner, and Ingram in a matchup of the best RB stables, and possibly the best teams in the league. I expect it will come down to how each team performs at other positions.
Josh- With an average performance of 116.2 points, Josh defeated an underachieving Bryce team to roll onto 3-1 as well. At fourth in scoring with 118.1 PPG, Josh has yet to score below 106 and continues to prove consistently high output. Josh had success with the WR carousel this week, getting 20.7 from Sterling Shepard to compliment the usual 19 from Barkley. Jordan Howard let him down though with 2.5 points in another segment of his rollercoaster season. With Mark Ingram coming back, Josh secures his RB and Flex positions for his battle with Trevor but choosing the right WRs will be key. I think Josh has a chance to surprise him if he can avoid leaving points on the bench.
Jack- Scoring the current league high with 165.1 points, I emerged victorious in another unfortunate week for Brandon. With Alvin Kamara and a monster week from Jared Cook leading the way, my lineup seemed to finally come to fruition in week four. The high production catapulted me to second in scoring and tied for first with a 3-1 record. With the return of Mark Ingram and Joe Mixon to their respective lineups, production at RB will be uncertain going forward, putting more stress on Flex decisions. A week five matchup with Riley should be a good look into how my lineup will perform going forward.
Kyle- With an impressive 149.5, Kyle had the second most points this week but still sits at fifth in scoring through four weeks. Kirk Cousins stepped up this week with 31.7 points, followed by a combined 57.1 from the three WRs in his lineup and 21 from his defense. At last in PAPG by a 10-point margin, Kyle has not seen much competition and has so far slid to 3-1 through four weeks. With what should be a relatively even matchup against Roush in week five, Kyle has a chance to prove his superiority with another win and a 4-1 record.
Brandon- Always the unfortunate, Brandon posted the fourth most points of anyone this week and fell to yours truly to go 1-3. At third in scoring with 118.5 PPG, I would be furious if I were him with bad luck of his draw thus far. The good news is that Brandon has a solid lineup centered around Melvin Gordon, Kareem Hunt, and Tyreek Hill that can post a high score on any given week. Yet to score below 103, Brandon’s time for wins will come soon enough, starting with a very attainable matchup against Julian in week five.
Kendall- Bouncing back from a smackdown from Riley in week three, Kendall rallied for 128.2 points in his win over Alex to even out at 2-2.With Julio Jones, Adam Thielen, and Brandin Cooks all scoring over 20, Kendall’s WRs covered for his ailing RBs who combined for 7.7 points. I have a difficult time getting a read on Kendall’s team, which has new pieces step up every week and has been up and down since the season started. Facing Bryce in week five, Kendall can solidify his spot in the top half by going 3-2, but who knows what to expect from his lineup.
Riley- With an abysmal 56.1 points, Riley scored the new low for this year in his week four loss against Kyle. Some combination of negligence and poor-quality players led Riley to this disappointing performance, with only one player scoring in double-digits. The good news is we have seen his team put up big numbers before, so the possibility is still there. Among fellow 2-2 teams Kendall and Alex, Riley seems to be the only one trending downwards as his lineup begins to falter. Facing myself in week five, Riley’s lineup could prove last week to be an anomaly, or they could slip and plunge him to a 2-3 record, who knows?
Alex- Snapping an impressive winning streak, Alex lost to a revived Kendall team 128.2-79.3 in week four. Despite a season high 32 from Zeke, Alex’s defense and WRs held him back with a combined 5.9 points. This is also the second week in a row his defense went negative. With the emergence of Sony Michel and increasing usage of Jordy Nelson, Alex’s lineup could see some improvement before facing Kyle in week five. He better hope he can find a decent defense if he wants to avoid 2-3.
Julian- Making his comeback from the bottom of the rankings, Julian scored an even 100 points this week losing to first place Trevor. Getting 31.1 points from Deshaun Watson and over 14 each from his RBs, Julian’s lineup showed life after a few rough weeks to start. Still juggling waiver claims and making more lineup decisions every day, the improvement process continues as he fights his way up. With Devonta Freeman returning and a healthy lineup, Julian looks ready to contend with luck on his side against Brandon in week five.
Bryce- I know what you are thinking “Julian is 0-4, how could I be last?”. Well, considering the only team you have actually beaten is Julian, and he is outscoring you by 3 PPG, I figured it was fair. With 69.3 points, Bryce scored the second least points this week and slid to 1-3 on the season. His highest score being a mere 100.6, Bryce’s lineup has yet to prove that they can be competitive and put up big numbers on a weekly basis. I think if Bryce fails to make the roster changes Julian is going through, he could continue to fall behind the pack. Bryce should hope for the cold side of Kendall’s team as he hopes to avoid starting 1-4.
