WEEKLY REVIEW

Josh- THERE’S A NEW SHERIFF IN THIS TOWN! After back-to-back weeks of tearing up the competition, Josh claims his rightful spot atop this week’s Power Rankings. Posting a season high 173.6 points in week 5, followed by 149.4 this week, Josh has led all scorers two weeks running and moved into first in PPG. Also a league high, he is riding a three-game win streak putting him in sole possession of first place at 5-1. All of Josh’s pieces have been clicking recently, with double-digit performances from almost everyone and very few busts. Barkley seems to be reaching his full potential and the recent acquisition of OBJ should only beef up his roster. With perhaps the most stacked lineup resulting from his post-draft moves, Josh looks to leave everyone else in the dust before playoffs.

Trevor- Bouncing back from his week five loss, Trevor handled Riley this week scoring 132.1 points, led by 35.5 from Todd Gurley. Aside from Todd, Trevor’s team had a relatively average week, keeping him from securing another astronomical score. Despite the high score, he was passed up by Josh this week in scoring and position, leading him to second in the rankings. I have said before that Trevor has the lineup to go the distance, but that has recently been brought into question. Outside of Todd and David Johnson, Trevor has seen some scoring inconsistencies evidenced by his week five loss to Josh. Although he has proven to be successful thus far, Trevor’s isolationism techniques may turn around to bite him.

Jack- Following a loss to Riley in week five, I was able to beat Bryce behind a combined 43.8 points from Tom Brady and Stephen Gostkowski. With 122.9 points in week six, I remain third in PPG, comfortably ahead of Brandon yet drastically behind Josh and Trevor. It seems that tiers have begun to form in the league, just as they do every year as we get deeper into the season. With the top tier composed of Josh and Trevor, Riley, Kyle, and myself occupy a second tier with a couple head to head matchups already determined. So far, I have beat Kyle, who beat Riley, who beat me, pretty fun stuff. Yesterday, I made a gutsy trade for a James Conner that could be worthless after his bye this week or could propel me to playoffs. Guess we will find out.

Kyle- In week five, Kyle’s team impressed with 127.4 points in a crucial win over Alex. However, this week Kyle posted a disappointing 83.1 points in a loss to Josh that puts him at 4-2. Behind Brandon by 5.5 PPG, Kyle is fifth in scoring and sits at fourth in the standings losing both the head-to-head and points tie breaker to yours truly. Fournette’s lingering injury has made lineup decisions increasingly difficult for Kyle, and Cooper Kupp missing time does not help matter. With a few sure-fire pieces that can produce, Kyle will need to build up his roster if he wants to make a push come playoff time. His week seven matchup against Brandon will be a true quality test, as Brandon has proven he can score week in week out. This is also a very important week because moving to 5-2 would verify his place in the second tier and all but secure a playoff spot.

Riley- After picking up a W last week, Riley’s team lost in a valiant 107.3-point effort to move down to 3-3 and fifth place in the standings. Riley sits smack in the middle of the pack and his team’s performance over the next few weeks will be crucial. The trio of Drew Brees, Joe Mixon, and Alshon Jeffery has the potential to carry Riley’s squad, but more consistent play from other positions will make the difference going forward. Although firmly in the playoff hunt, Riley has an uphill battle against Josh in week seven and risks falling to 3-4. However, with Brandon, Bryce, and Alex on the horizon, Riley should be able to bounce back and prove his worth.

Brandon- With the second highest score this week, Brandon put up 141.7 points to defeat Alex. His first win since week two over Bryce launched him into the five-way tie for last place and back into the playoff picture. Melvin Gordon and Tyreek Hill accounted for 69.7 points, and Kareem Hunt added 27 more. While Gordon should continue to put up consistent numbers, Brandon’s success may depend on the explosivity of the Chiefs offense going forward. At fourth in scoring, Brandon is rounding the bend and it seems like the storm clouds may be clearing. I expect his lineup to be a threat on any given week and possibly slide into playoffs.

Kendall- Kendall lost a nail biter in week six against an up-and-coming Julian squad to move down to 2-4 and tied for last. Now on a two-game skid, Kendall posted 96.8 points almost entirely scored by Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Adam Thielen. While this trio should continue to produce, Kendall desperately needs to find a viable RB if he wants to remain competitive. With Latavius Murray and Peyton Barber scoring a combined 40.9 points on his bench, it may be a matter of making better start/sit decisions, but I would advise he seek out a trade. With such a tight race at the bottom, Kendall is certainly still in the playoff picture but needs some strong showings going forward.

Julian- Now on a two-game winning streak, Julian seems to be making the turn, determined to make something from his 0-4 start. Perhaps fueled by his flashy new team name, Julian’s team defeated Kendall’s in week six, scoring 102 points led by the Houston D/ST. Scoring was balanced throughout the lineup, however his RBs combined for a mere 13.7 points. With a solid set of WRs, TE, and kicker, Julian has pieces he can continue to build around before the big playoff push. Kenny Golladay and Michael Thomas returning to his week seven lineup should make a difference against me this week, and picking up Ito Smith might resolve some issues at RB. Julian is the hottest team tied at the bottom this week and should hope to continue this momentum into the second half of the season.

Alex- Losing to Brandon in week six, Alex currently has the longest active losing streak at three games, putting him at 2-4 after a 2-1 start. Although this is surely disappointing, Alex’s performance in week six shows positive signs of improvement, scoring his second most points of the season at 117.4. With Aaron Rodgers putting up big numbers and Sony Michel continuing to blossom, Alex’s team remains a week-to-week threat, especially with more consistent scoring at WR. Although somewhat lacking superstar threats, Alex’s lineup is deep, and his bench should allow for easy transitions during upcoming bye weeks for starters. In the next couple weeks, the bottom will begin to separate, and Alex needs to find a way to win if he wants to end up on top.

Bryce- Despite being tied with the pack, it seems that Bryce has lost interest in putting forth effort this season. He failed to start a TE in his week six loss and scored only 75.3 points, which unfortunately was not his low for the season. I will put effort into analyzing his team when he tries to succeed.
